My wife and I normally hold our BAG Day festivities on our Anniversary, but things didn’t work out that way this year. I went to my favorite local death merchant for a pound of IMR 3031, and my wife told me to leave with this thing:
Yup, a Ruger LC9. I took it to the range on the way home, glopped out the more egregious globs of packing grease from the innards, and ran fifty rounds through the new pocket heater. Recoil was stout, but not bad, the grip is very secure, the sights are nice for a pocket gun, and the trigger is fairly light.
The camera ran out of memory before I could compare the LC to the PPK/S, but you can see how it compares to my G23.
The Ruger is thinner than the picture would suggest lighting/angle/grip contours make it look almost as thick as…I have calipers coming in the mail, I’ll let you know then. Enough vagaries.
A few points worth mentioning:
- Weight loaded: 1 lb 5 oz. Weight of reload: 5 oz.
- Capacity: 7+1
- The slide stop is very stiff when engaged, you’ll probably have to slingshot the slide. I slingshot, but I know many people like to actually use the slide stop.
- The safety is stiff to engage and disengages smoothly and securely. I wouldn’t bother with the safety if I decide to replace my PPK/S with it.
- I shoot fine with the flat floor-plate so I haven’t even bothered to try the pinky extension.
I’ll put up another post comparing the new Ruger to the PPK/S and the LCP once I have a bit of time. No promises on a range report because I always manage to forget the camera.
